I’m happy to partner with Graco as a Generation Graco blogger to bring you this review of the Graco Extend2Fit 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat with TrueShield Technology.
The science behind car seat safety has been progressing leaps and bounds in the last few years. Graco, one of the first car seat brands, has been working hard to lead the way with ever safer and more advanced car seats.
One of Graco’s most recent car seats, the Graco Extend2Fit 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat featuring TrueShield Technology, has absolutely blown me away! As the mother of three young kids we’ve used our share of car seats. Having been a blogger for the last seven years has allowed me to test out and use even more. And this seat is by far my favorite for ease of use, safety features, and the fact that it grows with your child.
Graco Extend2Fit™ 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat
The Graco Extend2Fit™ 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat is truly the only car seat you’ll ever need for your child. The Graco Extend2Fit 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat has the ability to grow with your child from 4 lbs. all the way up to 100 lbs. Wow!!
Graco Extend2Fit 3-in-1 Rear Facing
In addition to the high maximum weight this car seat can accommodate, Graco brilliantly engineered this car seat to allow and encourage parents to keep children in the appropriate positioning for as long as possible. Infants and children can rear-face in the Graco Extend2Fit™ 3-in-1 until they are up to 50 lbs! This will allow you to rear-face your children until at least 4 years old. This website has some eye-opening statistics on why extended rear-facing is so important for the safety of your child.
Here is my adorable little niece modeling the rear-facing position of the car seat. She is a petite 6 month old.
I totally love the 6 position recline feature of this seat! With the pull of a lever, you can easily adjust the seat to the appropriate recline position for the age of your child.
Graco Extend2Fit 3-in-1 Extended Rear Facing
One of the most unique features about this car seat is the Extend2Fit™ 4-position extension panel that provides 5″ additional leg room! I’ve heard some parents express concerns about extended rear facing. They feel their child’s legs will be cramped and uncomfortable. The Extend2Fit™ panel addresses those concerns and helps parents feel more comfortable about rear-facing their children longer.
Here is my not quite 3 year old nephew (who is the same height and weighs more than my 4 year old son). You can see that the Extend2Fit™ panel is pulled out to allow him more leg room.
Here is a nice close up of the Extend2Fit™ panel…
Extending the foot panel does push the entire seat out into the vehicle quite a bit. You can see from the picture above that the upper portion of the seat is almost touching the front passenger seat. This isn’t an issue in our Honda Odyssey, but I’m not sure that you’d actually be able to use the foot panel in a compact car. Not that this is really a problem at all. There is no harm in your kiddos sitting criss cross or with their knees bent while rear facing.
Graco Extend2Fit 3-in-1 Forward Facing in 5-Point Harness
As the kiddos grow you can easily adjust the harness height using the Simply Safe Adjust™. With the squeeze of one hand you can adjust the 10-position harness and headrest together. No re-threading needed!!!
Forward facing children can use the 5-point harness in the Graco Extend2Fit 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat up to 65 lbs. Here is my 4 year old son in the forward facing position. (Gotta love that glare in his eye! He despises having his picture taken. LOL.)
Graco Extend2Fit 3-in-1 Booster Seat
When your child outgrows the 5-point harness, the car seat can quickly and easily be converted into a high-back booster seat. The ingenious storage box behind the seat pad allows you to store the straps, buckles, and shoulder pads right in the car seat itself!
According to the upper weight and height limits for the Graco Extend2Fit 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat children should be able to ride in the booster seat positioning until they are 100 lbs or 57″ tall. My 7 year old is almost 49″ tall. He fits in the booster on the highest headrest positioning. My 55″ tall 9 year old, however, is too tall for the seat. His shoulders hit the bottom of the headrest so he can’t sit comfortably back in the seat. So, while this is advertised to fit children all the way to 57″ tall, you may find that long-torso children grow out of the seat quicker.
Here is how perfectly my 7 year old fits in the booster seat positioning…
We absolutely LOVE the Graco Extend2Fit 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat featuring TruShield Technology! In addition to Graco’s high standards for front and rear collision safety, Graco’s new TrueShield Technology provides side impact protection from your child’s head to their hips.
I love knowing that my children will be safe in the event of either head-on, rear, or side impact collision. I love knowing that I will not have to invest in another car seat in my kids’ lifetime. And I LOVE how parent friendly this car seat is!
