Neoflam MIDAS Plus Cookware Review + Gluten-free Blueberry Crisp Recipe & Giveaway

My husband and I have been trying to purge our house of unnecessary things lately. I feel like we are surrounded by so much clutter. While our house is probably no worse than most as far as clutter goes, we both function best when our house is clean and uncluttered.

Our kitchen has been a particular challenge for us. Who ever designed our kitchen was not the most thoughtful of souls. Given the size of our kitchen we have a shocking shortage of cabinets. I’ve definitely lived with smaller kitchens…but that was back before I had children and all the separate kids dishes that go with them.

One of the first things to go were most of our leftover storage containers. Next, thanks to Neoflam, will be many of my collection of pots and pans. Neoflam sent us their new Neoflam MIDAS PlusTM cookware set to use.

At just 1/3 the weight of cast iron, the Neoflam MIDAS PlusTM is made of cast aluminum which I’ve learned in my internet research is great for cooking because it conducts heat quickly and evenly. It is coated with Ecolon™ non-stick ceramic coating which makes for an ultra-non-stick surface.

You do have to be extremely careful with ceramic coated cookware though. We have been very gentle with our Neoflam MIDAS Plus cookware. We always use the nesting pads that came with the set. We always use wood or plastic utensils when cooking and yet one of the pans already (after about 1 month of use) has a very small chip in the ceramic coating.

The MIDAS Plus cookware is so unique! It is the ultimate space saving cookware. Our Neoflam MIDAS Plus cookware has received daily use since Neoflam sent them to us last month. They’ve helped me make mundane weeknight meals like spaghetti. They’ve gotten hot and spicy making fajitas. And last week they cooked up an extra special treat for my boys.

Recently we’ve started doing a “Family Home Evening” on Sunday nights with our family. A weekly tradition in my church, Family Home Evening is a time for family to come together, discuss important topics, play games, and enjoy one another’s company. Family Home Evening is generally followed up by some sort of extra special treat. Given that we had what was once a 15 pound bag of blueberries in our freezer, I thought it would be fun to make Blueberry Crisp!

Whenever possible, my family eats gluten-free so I found a Blueberry Crisp recipe that I liked, tweaked it a little to reduce the sugar and make it a gluten-free blueberry crisp, and I got cooking with my MIDAS Plus cookware. Our new Neoflam ceramic pans were perfect for my baking venture! They went from stove top…

And then, later, to the refrigerator to store our leftovers…of which we had plenty!

Over the past few years as we’ve transitioned to a more gluten sensitive friendly diet for the sake of my husband and two boys, I’ve learned that it is really quite easy to bake gluten-free if you know what to substitute. When making my gluten-free blueberry crisp, I decided to substitute traditional wheat four with Bob’s Red Mill Gluten-free Oat Flour.

  • Approximately 4 cups frozen or fresh blueberries (a bit more is perfectly acceptable!)
  • 1/2 cup sugar (I used Alter Eco mascobado sugar. I love the caramel-y taste!)
  • 2 tbsp corn starch
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup oat flour (I love Bob's Red Mill Oat Flour . Feel free to substitute with the flour of your choice.)
  • 3/4 cup oats
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup + 2 tbsp real butter


  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • I used the round Neoflam MIDAS Plus frying pan. You can also use an 11 x 7 inch baking pan.
  • Spread the blueberries on the bottom of the pan.
  • In a small saucepan over medium heat combine the sugar, cornstarch, water and lemon juice. Cook and stir until thick and clear. Then add the vanilla.
  • Pour over the blueberries and stir gently.
  • In a bowl combine the flour with oats, brown sugar and cinnamon.
  • Add in the melted butter; mix until crumbly (I start mixing with a spoon then finish mixing with my hands). Sprinkle mixture over top of the blueberries.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until blueberry mixture bubbles and the topping is brown.
  • Best when served with ice cream!

Looks delicious, am I right? Don’t worry if you’re not a fan of gluten free. You can turn this gluten-free Blueberry crisp to your traditional gluten-filled Blueberry Crisp just by substituting the gluten-free flour with regular flour.

    Wow what a pretty set of cookware!!! It would be wonderful to win because our set now is 11 years old, and we are moving to a new home...Nice new cookware would be a great housewarming gift!!!

    This is probably the best cookware I have heard of in a very long time. I have this tendency to sometimes skim through words but, after reading your review I knew had I not read it and saw this at a store I most likely wouldn't have realized my favorite detail about it. I totally love the fact you can go from cook to oven to refrigerator. I feel like I am always washing 3 items for everything I cook. I'm glad you enjoy it so much and recognize the great features.
