At 7, 5, and 2 years old, my boys are still too young to see the new Avengers movies. My husband and I, however are huge fans of The Avengers and can’t wait to see MARVEL’S The Avengers: Age of Ultron after it comes out tomorrow! My husband does his best to imbue our children with a love for all things superhero.
Seriously, just check us out at Halloween…
MARVEL’s Avengers: Age of Ultron Sweeps – $4,500 Prize Value
My husband and my costumes were obviously last minute DIYs. But they were super easy to make. My husband, Thor, is wearing a mullet wig that I picked up for a couple bucks just after Halloween the year before. I cut in half and duck taped some Styrofoam craft balls. The helmet, cape, and hammer we just dug out of my boys’ dress-up box.
My costume, Black Widow, I made for about $15. I found a fitted black v-neck shirt and black leggings at Walmart for $5 each. I wore a black belt of my husband’s and made a black widow symbol out of paper.
I also bought a pack of kids foam darts for Black Widow’s bullet wrist bands. I only wore the costume twice and wanted my kids to be able to play with the darts afterwards so I just stuck them to the sticky side of a strip of duck tape. I left a little of the sticky tape exposed so I could easily wrap them around my wrists and stick them on.
Everyone loved the family Avengers theme! (Poor Hawkeye always gets left out.)
Avengers role play is pretty much an everyday occurrence in our house. Never has dressing up and role play been limited to Halloween. My boys have a plenteous collection of costumes that they use to act our their favorite superhero scenarios.
In fact, my boys have been begging me to let them make a superhero YouTube video of themselves, and I finally caved. Last time we were grocery shopping at Walmart I was amazed by all The Avengers branded foods! It is so fun! My boys got so excited about them so we decided to incorporate some into our YouTube video!
We picked up a box of The Avengers branded Cheez-It baked snack crackers and a box of The Avengers branded Kellogg’s Corn Flakes. The Cheez-Its were on the aisle with the snack crackers and the Corn Flakes were on the cereal aisle.
Our local Walmart didn’t have The Avengers Kellogg’s Fruit Snacks which I also wanted to get as a fun treat for the boys, but we found them at another store. (Most Walmart stores should carry the Avengers branded fruit snacks.)
