I’m not sure if there are more than a few handfuls of adults in existence who can say that they never experience back and neck tension.  In our age today we often work sedentary, or high-stress–or both–jobs that take their toll on our bodies.  Motherhood is no exception.  Truly, some of the worst back and neck aches I’ve experienced were a result of my calling as a mother.

Last month HoMedics sent me their new HoMedics Triple Shiatsu Massage Cushion to review for my holiday gift guide. I have to admit I was super excited because the last time I was in Bed, Bath, and Beyond my husband found me all cozied up, relaxing in a chair outfitted with a HoMedics Massage Cushion.  “THIS is what I want for Christmas.” I told him.

The HoMedics® Triple Shiatsu Massage Cushion with heat delivers a revitalizing massage in the comfort of your favorite chair. With the latest 3D full contour technology, the massaging nodes travel up and down your back for a deep kneading shiatsu massage. Its easy-to-use hand control allows you to control your intensity level, as well as add soothing heat for added relaxation.

I’m no stranger to back and neck pain.  While I have fewer chronic issues than I did a several years ago, I still get frequent headaches and neck aches due to tension.  The Husband is used to my requests for a few “shoulder pinches”.

The HoMedics Triple Shiatsu Massage Cushion has become a regular fixture in our house.  The cushion comes with elastic straps so it can easily be attached to most chairs.  I have ours attached to my office chair.  It is really nice to be able to blog and receive a good, deep massage at the same time. 🙂 That is my idea of multi-tasking.

I turned on the heat massage so you could see the massagers better in the picture.  I love the heat function on the massage cushion.  It heats up really nicely and helps to relax my muscles.

In addition to a heat setting, the HoMedics Triple Shiatsu Massage cushion has two intensity settings.  Think of these more as two speeds rather than pressure levels. There is also a “reverse” button. I have a really tense area in my back along the right side of my spine and the massage can occasionally become a little overwhelming.  When that happens I hit the reverse button and the pattern change of the massaging nodes is enough to provide relief and complete the massage experience.

Because I can’t go to a massage therapist on a regular basis, this is the next best thing.  The massage it gives is deep enough (and make no mistake, this massage cushion is meant to give you a deep massage) to provide relief even for chronic tension sufferers.  If I could change one thing it would be to make the massage rollers not quite so hard so that when they go across a bone in my back or brush my shoulder blades there would be just a little bit of give. That said, this is the best massage cushion I’ve tried yet.

If you’re looking for a gift for someone who suffers from back pain, or for someone who sits at a desk all day, keep the HoMedics Triple Shiatsu Massage Cushion in mind.  They’ll thank you for it.

The HoMedics Triple Shiatsu Massage Cushion retails for $149.99 and is available for purchase at Bed Bath and Beyond, Macy’s, Kohls, and HoMedics.com.
