Thanks so much to Chris Wimmer for today’s guest post! You can read more about Chris and his awesome blog in his bio below.
Summers are the best time of year: Vacations, sun, no rain, and lots of time for family fun. One of the few challenges our family has in Chicago is trying to stay cool when the temperature reaches 90+ degrees. An icy cold lemonade is always a crowd pleaser but I recently started reading labels more closely and it’s surprising what you find.
For example, last week I was at the store to purchase Lemonade and started reading the label of a 20oz Minute Maid Pink Lemonade bottle. Yikes! It has 260 calories and all of these mystery ingredients: modified cornstarch, glycerol ester of rosin, sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate and calcium disodium edta (to protect taste), yellow #5. I was pretty surprised and I wasn’t sure which was worse… The calories or mystery additives.
Well much like Amy’s Christmas present to her husband, we purchased the Omega VRT350. (Confession time. I left this off my blog post but it was my wife’s Mother’s Day gift). I felt a little guilty as I probably wanted more than her but 3 months later we are both very happy with the purchase.
So armed with our new fresh juicer, we’ve experimented with a couple creative healthy lemonades. After a few trials, we have found a spicy lemonade recipe we love and know it’s super healthy too.
What makes this spicy lemonade recipe healthy:
• Fresh lemon juice is a natural antiseptic that will clear up your skin and halts bad breath
• Ginger speeds digestion and eliminates bloating by breaking down fats and proteins in your GI tract
Yields 16 oz.
