This week is National Sleep Awareness Week!

National Sleep Awareness week isn’t one of those trivial national days like national hot dog day, or “What if Cats had Opposable Thumbs Day” <–yeah, I’m serious.  According to a Gallup Poll 40% of Americans get less than the recommended amount of sleep per night.  And that just means 40% are getting less than the minimum amount of sleep recommended, not 40% are getting less than the amount of sleep that is ideal for their own personal sleep needs.

The Science of Healthy Sleep

A week ago I was invited by P&G to a blogging conference centered around healthy sleep.

The first night we had a nice welcoming party so we could all get to know one another…

P&G introduced some of their newest products and scents designed to help us achieve a healthy sleep environment.  It was very cool to learn about the science behind the development of these new products and fragrances!

Pleasant Scents Can Help Us Sleep

According to a study conducted by Healthcare Analytics Research (HRA), 100 percent of doctors polled report that an appropriate sleeping environment is critical to aiding a person’s ability to relax so they can fall asleep, and half of physicians would recommend their patients use clean, lavender scented bedtime fabrics as a way to help them relax so they can fall asleep.

This week, in support of National Sleep Awareness Week, P&G Fabric Care is launching the Sweet Dreams Collection, including Tide® plus A touch of Downy™ Sweet Dreams™, Downy® UNSTOPABLES® Dreams™, Downy Infusions® Sweet Dreams™, and Bounce® Sweet Dreams™, which can “transform your bedtime fabrics to help you relax so you can fall asleep”.

Other innovations for 2014 include the Febreze Sleep Serenity Collection–I have to pause here and say just how much I LOVE the Febreze Sleep Serenity bedside diffuser I received at the conference! I didn’t really think I’d be a fan of having something smelly (other than my husband) next to me while I slept, but my subconscious seems to really look forward to the calming smell at night.  Not to mention it really cuts back on that other smelly thing (*cough* husband!) in my bedroom.

Take the Tuck in, Turn Off Pledge

P&G is asking you to take the Tuck in, Turn Off Pledge! Head on over and take the pledge to take time to unwind at night before you head to bed, unplug from your tech gadgets before hitting the sack, and get a full 8 hours of sleep.  You’ll feel so good once you do! Your body will thank you and your family will thank you so head on over and make the pledge.

Stay tuned on Thursday for some more info and some sweet tips on how to get the most of your sleep time!

  1. I never seem to sleep well, or get enough of it when I do. I would love to check these out - I bet they smell awesome.
  2. We just went through a round of sleep study tests for my husband. There are not enough words to talk about the value of getting a good night's sleep (says the girl who often cuts it way too short in order to get more done)!
    • Haha, sleep in one area my body won't let me skimp too much. I'm one of those 9 hour a night persons. I'm still only at about 7.5 but I'm working on it. I hope your husband's sleep study tests are able to help. My husband did that last year and discovered he has mild apnea.
