Berry Picking

We picked a total of 11 lbs. of blueberries and blackberries!  I also bought 8 yellow squash.  Mmm.  And the grand total was under $15!  Much better than at the grocery store, I’d say.

Keep an eye out for some recipes to come!

If you live in the Northern Louisiana area here is more info on Blueberry Hill farm:

5121 Bellevue Road, Haughton, Louisiana 71037, LA.

Phone: 318-949-4930.

Pick-your-own.

Directions: 1 mile east of LA Downs Racetrack. Turn left on Bellevue Road, go 8 miles. Farm is on right side of Bellevue Road.

Open: Monday to Saturday 6:00 am to 5:00 p.m. from June 1 to mid-July (call for exact dates).

It gets hot quickly so the earlier you go the better!

We also bought some local, raw honey and I spotted some peas and green beans growing.  We’ll be heading back for more in just a couple weeks!

  1. That looks like a BLAST!! I am ready to take my kids up to a farm in New Braunfels - I just have to find the time!
  2. thaa's a GREAT price!!! I cringe at $4 a lbs in the store. I need to find some cheap farms down here in the new orleans area.
    • And $4 is when they're on sale. LOL Here is a website that lists some of the U-Pick farms around LA. I don't think it has been updated in a while though. There weren't any in the Orleans parish, but maybe there is a parish close to you that has some? http://www.pickyourown.org/LA.htm
  3. That was a wonderful price. I wish I could find some places like that in Fort Worth, Texas. As I know my Father n law would love a Homemade Cobbler and it would make the perfect Fathers Day Gift.
    • Glenda, try this website: http://www.pickyourown.org/TXdallas.htm they have quite a few listed in your area. Just make sure you call first to make sure the farm is still in operation as this list isn't updated all the time.

How cute are these boys! Great learning experience. Reminds me when I was that age and we would go out and pick wild blackberries.

  12. How cute! I love berry picking! I don't buy berries hardly ever in the store, it has gotten to be way too expensive.
    • I know, really! I took the boys berry picking again a couple times this season (it is over now, boo) and we picked enough to freeze a couple months worth (at least) of berries.
  13. I love this post!! This looks like do much fun. I've always lived in a big city where there aren't berry picking opportunities. A few years ago we went berry picking in Michigan. I loved it!! So much fun and SOOO yummy!!
  14. David Fultner says

  15. This looks like so much fun. I haven't been able to take my kid to something like this yet but i know they'd have so much fun picking them and I'd love eating 'em :)
