Breastfeeding a new baby is a challenge.  Getting a good latch and supporting baby properly takes a lot of practice…and a little help.  I consider a good nursing pillow ESSENTIAL.  Even if you’re bottle feeding it is still important to have support for your arms as you feed your precious baby.

I was recently sent a Comfort and Harmony Mombo pillow to use with Baby Brother.  I’ve had, and used, a nursing pillow since I had Big Brother almost  6 years ago.  The Mombo pillow, however, is a bit different that the other nursing pillow I own.

Mombo has a unique shape and a two-sided design called Firm2Soft™, with each side offering a different experience. The firm side gives essential support for mommy and her nursing baby. The soft side is extra cozy—an inviting place for lounging or tummy time. And mombo is the only nursing pillow with a vibration feature, to give baby the ultimate soothing experience while lounging.

As I’ve used the Mombo pillow I have really appreciated having a firm side to the pillow for nursing purposes.  My other pillow was so soft it really didn’t provide enough support for the baby, and I always ended up leaning over very awkwardly.

The softer side (which is still sort of firm, but I’m guessing will soften with age as it is used more) is great for babies who need just a little help with tummy time.  Tummy time reluctant babies will likely prefer being propped up on the pillow where they can see a bit more of the world around them.

Or, you can use the Mombo pillow to prop baby up a bit while they are lying on their back.  This is very helpful if you have a baby with reflux.  We don’t use the vibration feature on the pillow right now, but it would have been perfect a few months ago when Baby Brother was tiny.  He loved the vibration on his bouncer–thats actually how we used to get him to go to sleep!  Now, Baby Brother likes to lay like this while he watches his older brothers play.

Isn’t that “Elepaloo” print so cute!

There is one more use that I love the Comfort and Harmony Mombo pillow for.  I learned this secret when I worked in a portrait studio.  A nursing pillow like the Mombo is just what you need to take the perfect pictures of your newborn or infant!  Just slip the Mombo under a sheet, nestle baby in, and you have a beautiful baby pose.

The one potential drawback with the Mombo nursing pillow is that I’m not sure how well it would would fit around a plus size mommy.  The pillow itself is very firm, and it just doesn’t feel like it would open wide enough to be comfortable fit around a plus size woman.  As a lot of moms are plus size just after having a baby, this may be something Comfort & Harmony would like to take into consideration when designing future versions of the Mombo. *Note:The pillow fit perfectly on me. I’m currently a size 8.
