For breastfeeding mothers the question of how to breastfeed in public is invariably addressed early on in motherhood. Unless you choose never to leave your house, you’ll have to breastfeed in public at some point. Some women prefer to nurse unfettered by a cover. Others, like myself, prefer to nurse with a cover.
While at Babies R Us registering for my baby shower the Bébé Au Lait nursing covers caught my eye. I loved the Mint Chocolate print!
I didn’t receive the cover at my baby shower, but just a few days later Bébé au Lait contacted me and asked if I’d like to review one of their nursing covers. What luck!
After looking through all their cute prints, I finally settled on the Papillion print. I love the bold floral print! Being a mom to all boys, it’s nice to have something a little feminine once in a while.
Papillion Nursing Cover
The Bébé au Lait covers are designed with patented Rigiflex™ necklines to allow mom and baby to maintain eye contact while also promoting airflow. The cover is 100% cotton to help keep you and baby cool because, if you’ve ever breastfed a baby, you know how hot it can get under a cover. While the open neckline and cotton fabric won’t keep you totally cool, it will help with ventilation.
A feature unique to the Bébé au Lait nursing covers are their internal terrycloth pockets–one at each bottom corner of the cover. These pockets are perfect for quick cleanups and stashing pads and pacifiers. I found these pockets to be both a pro and a con to the cover. I found that the terrycloth pockets weighed the cover down when I held Baby Brother in the cross cradle hold. Until very recently this was the only hold he’d nurse in. Trying to nurse in this position with the Bébé au Lait was very frustrating.
As soon as I switched to the cradle hold the cover was perfect. While I haven’t used the terrycloth pockets to store anything yet, they came in very handy on a very blustery evening at Six Flags amusement park. The wind was blowing so hard it pushed our parked stroller forward a bit! The weight of the terrycloth pockets on the bottom of the Bébé au Lait nursing cover helped me keep the cover in place so I didn’t expose myself to everyone around. It also protected baby from the strong winds.
A good quality nursing cover is something every mama who prefers to nurse with a bit a privacy ought to have in her diaper bag.
