As I’ve mentioned in my post about fun traditions to start during the holidays, this will be our first year celebrating Christmas at our own home.  In years past we’ve gone to my parent’s house or to my in-laws’.  This year we’ll be staying at our own home.  Though we aren’t expecting any company, I still want to have a yummy Christmas breakfast and dinner!

I’m kind of strange in that I’m not really a huge fan of the traditional American holiday foods.  I don’t like turkey, and the rest…well, it’s a holiday!  If I’m going to eat I want to eat something different and completely delicious!  So, though we won’t be entertaining company this Christmas I’ve been on the hunt for some delicious–and slightly non-traditional–holiday food recipes.

As a Hormel Extended Family Blogger I’m occasionally sent recipe ideas.  I loved the ones this month!

The first appetizer idea is actually something my aunt makes every year from Christmas brunch:

  • With a preparation time of less than 15 minutes, Chicken and Salsa Tortilla Bitesare quick and tasty bite-size wraps that don’t require any baking. Simply combine Hormel® chunk breast of chicken, a vegetable cream cheese of your choice, and CHI-CHI’S® thick & chunky salsa, spread on a tortilla, wrap up and enjoy! (Tip: for a little different flavor try adding some Hormel Real Crumbled Bacon!)

  • Turn an ordinary biscuit into a more sophisticated appetizer by filling a mini biscuit with a delicious mixture of Hormel® pepperoni minis, cheese, tomato, mayonnaise and pesto to create Italian Pepperoni Bites.

  •  Now this twist on traditional Ham looks delicious! I’m headed to the store tomorrow and am going to pick up a small Hormel Cure 81 ham.  For this delicious Plum Salsa Ham, broil the ham slices and then serve with a plum salsa mixture!

  • If I’m going to have mashed potatoes, I love this idea of adding two of my favorite foods: cheese and bacon!  I’d change up the recipe for these Bacon and Cheese Mashed Potatoes a bit by using fresh, skinned potatoes and Hormel Real Crumbled Bacon.

What is your favorite appetizer that you’ve created or been served at a party? Do you have any non-traditional dishes you love to serve during the holidays?
