I’ve been doing my own laundry since I was 11. Both my laundry skills and laundry machine technology have come a long way in the 20 years since then. Our washing machine, for example, probably only had a few cycle options on it. The dryer would have been a similar story. Laundry then was mundane. There was no creativity involved in setting the washing machine and dryer settings. 🙂
Today there are all sorts of washing machines and dryers with all sorts of washing and drying options. We’ve now had our Maytag Bravos XL for 4 months. I’ve yet to get bored with my new washer and dryer pair. There are so many options for washing clothes. Amazingly, even with all the options, choosing which to use is never overwhelming; it is all fairly intuitive. There is just one option that I really wish they would add–a clothes folding option! Why has no one invented this yet?! LOL.
Unrealistic clothes folding option aside, our Maytag Bravos pair has been amazing. I’m a compulsive smeller of clothes–is that weird? With our previous washing machines our whites (which contained all our underwear and undershirts) in particular would come out of the washer still smelling a little stale….ewww. I really don’t know why I persist in this weird habit because since we began using our Maytag Bravos washing machine our clothes, even our whites, have never come out stinky.
One feature that I’ll be using for the first time this week is the Allergen Cycle. The Allergen Cycle helps eliminate 95 percent of household allergens. With three out of four of us allergic to cats, and a visit to my Aunt’s cat-loved house for Thanksgiving, we’re in need of the allergen cycle. You can find some of my other favorite Bravos features on this post.
We have had one hiccup with our pair that I wanted to touch on really quick. I read a ranting post about Maytag customer service a month or two ago. This person had a “terrible” experience with “Maytag customer service” and wanted the world to know about it. I was somewhat confused by her post given that Maytag usually contracts out repair work to local companies who are not otherwise affiliated with Maytag.
When we moved in August we had a moving company pack up and move all our stuff. As the movers put our dryer on the dolly and rolled it out of the house I watched very closely to make sure they loaded our new appliances with care. I guess we didn’t emphasize enough just how valuable a new washer and dryer are. The moving guy proceeded to roll our dryer DOWN A STEP at full speed. I knew when I heard the crash of the dryer landing on the pavement below (still securely on the dolly though) that we were going to have problems.
Sure enough, from that time on, our dryer made a rhythmic knocking noise every time it ran. I first contacted Maytag via their customer service form on their website. I received a reply within 48 hours. Trying to help me troubleshoot they made a couple suggestions, which I knew were not the cause of the problem.
I then contacted another Maytag representative and was very impressed with how helpful and prompt Maytag was. Maytag contacted a local service company who came out and took a look at the dryer. They found that a part had come loose and needed to be replaced for a tighter part (probably a defect from the beginning, but was knocked loose during the move). Because the Maytag Bravos washer and dryers come with a year warranty the part was quickly replaced with absolutely NO COST to us (including the service call).
Having had a mechanical issue, I can say that I’m very pleased not only with our washer and dryer pair, but also with Maytag’s customer service.
Check out what other Maytag users are saying on Maytag’s facebook page and on twitter.
Disclosure: I wrote this post participating in an Maytag Moms Dependable Laundry Ambassador program by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Maytag. I was provided with the Maytag washer and dryer set to facilitate my post.
