When I was approached about including this next item in my Holiday Gift Guide my response was kind of, “Well, okay. A little exposure to help out a small business.” Now that I’ve actually used the product my response is more, “Oh, now I get it! This thing is just what I needed!”
Check out this next gift idea for the camera enthusiast!
That last statement is pretty much how Camera Coats came into being. Created in 2010, Camera Coats came from a mom’s need to not be hauling yet another bag (in addition to their carseats, strollers, and other bags) through the airport and onto a plane. She wanted to bring her SLR but didn’t want the extra luggage the camera bag would create. To solve her problem she threw her camera into a padded bag she had made for her son’s video game, put it all in her diaper bag and off she went to the airport.
Prior to my family days I had an SLR that I took with me most places I went. I’m not a great photographer, but I like to pretend I am. 🙂 Once I acquired one child, then two, and now almost three, carting their belongs around overrode any priority a camera might have had. By that time, though, it didn’t matter that I didn’t have room to cart around a camera bag. Digital was the new thing and I was too poor to spend money purchasing film and paying to develop it so I simply stopped using my SLR.
Fast forward to the present. This summer I got myself a new digital SLR! I decided when I got my new camera that I wanted something versatile to carry it in. You know, one of those purses that is also a camera bag. Have you ever checked those bags out? They cost almost $200 dollars. I can’t justify spending that much on a bag, albeit a cute and functional one.
So here is what I discovered…
This is a Camera Coat:
And Camera Coats are awesome!
Unless you’re packing equipment for a photo shoot, a Camera Coat is the perfect solution to the bulky camera bag or expensive camera purse dilemma. I received the Country Chic Limited Edition with Flowers camera coat (pictured above) for review. I put my Nikon D5100 into my Camera Coat, tossed it into my purse (my purse is almost the size of a diaper bag), and headed off for a little Thanksgiving vacation in Dallas.
It was so nice to just toss my camera into my purse knowing that it was protected by the padding built into the camera coat. The camera traveled with me everywhere: Six Flags, LegoLand, Thankgiving dinner, etc. I love it!
The bag is the perfect size so my camera stays snugly in place. The velcro is nice and large which also adds to the security of the camera. And, because Camera Coats has thought of everything, there is even a buckle on the Camera Coat that you clip around your camera strap. That way when you take your camera out of its coat the coat stays nicely attached to the camera strap.
Camera Coats offers a variety of styles and fabrics to suit your camera needs. They even have a selection of styles for the guys! You can opt for a waterproof cotton laminate or go with a non-waterproof style like I did. Camera Coats also has a very helpful sizing page so that you can make sure you get the right size coat for your camera.
