Scat the Cat – Color Learning Game

My in-laws have a cabin up the mountains here in Utah that we like to get away to occasionally through out the year.  The last time we were up there one of my sister-in-laws was playing a cute game with her toddler.  It was called Scat the Cat and it was a very simply homemade game that taught colors.  Basically it was a cat printed out in various colors and then you quiz the kids about what color the cat was.  It was really cute.

So when I got home I found a picture of a cat and printed it off onto different colors of card stock.  Then I cut them out and laminated them to make them a little more sturdy.  And once those are cut out again its time to play the game!

Here is how you play the game.

Hold all the cats into one pile.  Hold up the first cat and say “Scat the cat is big and fat, he changes colors just like that!  What color is he?”  Then the child tells you the color of the cat.  (Or you can tell him what color the cat is).  You repeat the saying with the next colored cat until you have gone through all the cats!

My kids thought it was a fun game and they even will say the saying and then tell me what color it is.

Here is a picture of a cat you can use or you can find a picture or your own to use.  I have made a second set of cats that are harder colors.  Like turquoise, hot pink and lime green.

  1. This is a cute idea, my youngest is two and we've been working on his colors. We have a cat that he loves so I'm sure he'll love playing this

What a cute idea and so much more fun than just pointing and asking or telling your child the colors of random things!
