If not, you’ve got one more day!
While I can’t do hot dogs while I’m pregnant I have been known to sneak the occasional dog done up in the style my mom would be proud of. Indeed, I learned the art of a great dog from her.
Want to know the secret to the perfect mom-style, make-it-while-the-kids-nap dog?
Slice the uncooked hot dog right down the middle.
Put the former middle of the dog face down on an ungreased frying pan.
Cook until the dog is lightly grilled and flip.
Cook the same on the other side.
Toast a piece of bread.
While the bread is toasting heat up a pot of your favorite chili. If you’re a fan of Spicy like I am try Hormel® hot chili with beans.
Once the bread is toasted the the dog is done, lay the two slices of dog across the toast and cover generously with chili.
Top with cheese, finely chopped onion, and ENJOY!
And for all you dog lovin’ folks out there here are some fun hot dog facts:
- Americans are expected to eat at least 7 billion hot dogs this summer, according to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council.
- Ten percent of annual retail hot dog sales occur during July, which is designated as National Hot Dog Month.
- Sausage consumption is on the rise with sales reaching $2 billion in 2011.
