Did you know that a typical dinner plate is 11″-13″? I sure didn’t.  And with a plate being that big it makes it so much easier to load it up and eat way more than you should during your meals. So at Yum Yum  Dishes they have designed a 9 inch dinner plate to help keep correctly sized portion’s.    They also have a set of 4 oz snack bowls that are perfect for keeping your snacks under control too!  At Yum Yum dishes their moto is “It’s all about Moderation not Deprivation.” That way you can still eat your favorite things but in moderation. You don’t have to cut everything out of your diet entirely!  Look at these cute dinner and bowl sets!

I decided I needed to compare our current dinner plate with yumyum’s 9inch dinner plate.  I can’t believe the difference!  My dinner plate is so huge!  And think if you have a full plate of food!  That’s definitely a lot more food than I should be eating.

These plates are divided into three sections.  It’s pretty hard to see in the picture but the top section, which is the biggest section, says veggies and then the other two sections say carbs and protein.  So here is our dinner plate from dinner one night last week.

We had bbq chicken for our protein, roasted potato’s and green beans for veggies, and pasta salad for our carbs.  My chicken piece was probably a little bigger than it should have been and I should have had more veggies but overall I thought the portions worked out great!  While using the plates it made it easier to focus on what we should be filling up on (like our veggies) and not getting full off of just carbs or other items that aren’t so healthy.  I really like using the plates.  I feel like they help me keep my portions smaller and healthier.  Hopefully it will help me to loose a few more pounds if I watch my portions.  My husband on the other had filled his salad up 3 times so I think it wasn’t working for him!  That or my salad must have been really good!  But I really think these dishes are great and can really help out as long as you only fill them up once!   Like they say it’s all about moderation and not deprivation!

Both the 9inch plate and the snack bowls (you can see my review of the Yum Yum Snack Bowls here) come in pre-boxed sets in four fun colors:

  • Cherry red
  • Sunshine yellow
  • Pistachio green
  • Bold blue

Yum Yum dishes are made of ceramic and are safe for the dishwasher, microwave and conventional oven.  They will last longer if hand washed though.  The plastic leads for the bowls are not microwave of oven safe though.  They also have a website called Portion Control Central that will give you portion control advise, healthy recipe ideas, special promotions and a sign up for weekly tips.  So check it out!  You can also find them on facebook and on you tube.

  2. Thanks for a great review. I love the photos you took of our 9Plates with common dinner plates. They really show you the difference. Keep up the great workyour doing.
  3. I once saw a display done at my daughter's school where they had put (plastic) food on a 9" plate and the same portion on what we use for dinner plates NOW. It looked like nothing on that big plate. You feel like you're getting just as much food if you just put it on a smaller plate. These things are SO cute! I really want to find dishes that are the proper portion size and in a material that is safe for microwave and travel (in our travel trailer)... and don't cost an arm & a leg.

  10. Wow! What an awesome idea! It's very true that if we eat on a smaller plate, then we trick our brains into thinking that we are getting just as much food. And these are really great because they are divided into sections! I gotta get me some of these!
