As I’ve said in my previous fitness posts, establishing and maintaining an exercise routine when you’re a mom of young kids can be a bit tricky. What may work for one mom may not be possible for another. I am able to squeeze in a workout by running my son to his school a few times a week. His school is only just over half a mile from our house so I put my kids in the jogging stroller, give them each a snack to munch on and wind my way around the neighborhood, taking the long way to school. By the time I get home I’ve usually run between 1.5 and 2 miles (which is about all I can handle). If we’ve got extra time in the morning I’ll run the kids to a nearby playground and do my Jungle Gym Workout while they play.
My choice of workout attire is very important since I live in a semi-humid and VERY hot climate. The summer heat is coming and typically in the summer it doesn’t cool down past 80 degrees at night. By 9am (I’m not an early riser so early morning workouts are not my thing) it can already be in the 90s. The serious heat has led me to establish certain criteria when choosing workout clothes for the summer.
- I want my workout clothes to be fitted, but not too fitted. They need to have good airflow.
- I prefer sleeveless shirts for running, but they still need to be modest.
- The should be moisture wicking and quick drying.
- Shorts need to be either fitted or very loose (like running shorts).
Russell Athletic sent me a few of their women’s athletic wear pieces to review.
From left to right I received the Full Coverage Performance Tank, Dri-Power 360™ Round Neck t-shirt, Semi-Fit Performance Capri, and Cotton Stretch Capri. The Full Coverage Performance tank is absolutely perfect for working out during hot summer mornings. Though it is a tank, it is full coverage so I can be cool while I work out, but still be modest. Though the Dri-Power 360 Round Neck shirt has sleeves, it works well as a workout shirt for me because of its very thin fabric. It wicks moisture well, and dries quickly. I also like that this shirt is so versatile. I can easily work this shirt into my non-workout wardrobe too.
Though I won’t be working out outdoors in the capris this summer I love them anyway. Both the Semi-Fit Performance Capri and the Cotton Stretch Capri are articles of clothing I’d feel comfortable wearing out and about to run errands. The Cotton Stretch Capri also makes for the perfect indoor summer lounge pant. From the first day I tried them on they became my go-to lounge capri. I LOVE them! They are the kind of comfortable that you can forget you’re even wearing pants. Hehehe.
The Semi-Fit Performance Capri, 90% polyester and 10% spandex, is not so much of a wearing around the house pant, but I really like the way they are designed and these will be getting some good use in the cooler months. I really like that it has a small built-in zipper pocket on the back of the waistband. This is perfect for keeping a key(s), pedometer, etc.
