Rubbermaid has recently come out with a new product that, once you see, you’ll just have to have.  If you recycle, and you definitely should (though I do realize that not all communities make recycling convenient or affordable), then you’ll love this! The new Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler eliminates the recycle clutter that builds up on your kitchen counter while waiting to be taken to the recycle bin.  I know some of you our there are smarties and have multiple trash cans–one for recycle and one for trash.  Unfortunately, like a number of people, we really don’t have place for an extra trash can.

The Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler solves this problem.  It easily attaches to the inside of a cabinet door and lets you store recyclables out of site until you are ready to make a trip to the recycle bin.  Once the Hidden Recycler is full you just life the bag out by the easy carry handle and dump the contents out into your recycle bin.

Here are some of the Hidden Recycler’s other features:

  • Hinged lid attaches to cabinet door with over the door hooks or screws
  • Bag is made from 65% post-consumer resin
  • Bag is machine washable
  • Comfortable handle for transport
  • 5 gallon bag holds 36 uncrushed cans and is large enough to fit 1 gallon milk jugs
  • Great for single stream recyclers
  • Great for apartment living

The door hooks were a very tight fit for our cabinet doors (we are renting so we didn’t want to use the screws), but the hooks are lined with a cushioning foam that allows for slight variations in cabinet door widths.  The cushioning foam also prevents the hooks from scratching the finish on your cabinets.

Can I just tell you that it has been such a relief not to have a pile of recyclable trash build up on my counters every day! If you like your kitchen neat and organized this is a must have.  There has been an unexpected additional benefit to the Hidden Recycler, too.  Because the Hidden Recycler is so conveniently located under our kitchen sink I recycle much more than I used to; napkins, paper towels, recyclable wrappers–it all goes into the Hidden Recycler.

Retailing for only $15 and $18, the Hidden Recycler from Rubbermaid is a purchase you can definitely feel good about. The Hidden Recycler is currently available at and Meijer stores.
