This Thursday is National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day! I know, I know, it seems like there is a holiday for everything. Days like national bubble day, national sing in the shower day (okay, so I made that one up), national grilled cheese sandwich are a wonderful way to spend time with your kids having fun outside, in the kitchen, etc.
Big Brother loves grilled cheese so in honor of National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day, I decided to change things up a bit.
Generally, we stick with plain ol’ cheese and bread, but this time I changed it up a bit.
By the way, bacon tastes great on grilled cheese!
Because we all know that making grilled cheese sandwiches is not as easy as it looks, here are a few tips for the PERFECT grilled cheese sandwich:
- Butter the bread. This seems like a no-brainer, but sometimes it can be tempting to just butter the pan. (More often than not, buttering the pan results in burned butter) Make sure the butter is soft enough to spread.
- Cook on medium-low heat! Preheat the pan for a couple of minutes before placing the sandwich on and then make sure you check the sandwich every minute or so. When the sandwich is a golden brown it is time to flip.
- Have fun with cheese combos! Make sure to select cheeses that melt well. My favorites for grilled cheese are cheddar, Swiss, and Muenster.
- Add a little flair! Try onions and tomatoes, ham, bacon (we used Hormel fully cooked bacon), mini pepperonis (we used Hormel Pepperoni Minis).
What will you be putting on your grilled cheese sandwich this National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day?
