Organization is bad at our house.  Things are getting better, it’s a work in progress, but up until this year we simply lacked the money to buy the supplies we needed to organize our house. (For those who are new to my blog, my husband is just finishing up his Ph.D. which he went straight into out of his undergrad. So, until this last summer we lived on his meager part time pay.)  We’ve got a lot of catching up to do as our closets are now filled to capacity with blankets, heavy winter clothing, and all those other 4 season climate essentials.  In the past I tried to organize and make a little more room by putting some of our clothes in Space Bags.  That didn’t work out very well.  The bags simply didn’t retain their vacuum seal.  When I was approached by Space Bags and challenged to try out their High Capacity Storage Totes, I was a little skeptical.

“Featuring a canvas outer cover, the tote turns a cluttered garage or closet into an attractive, neatly organized space.  The tote also includes a see-through window for easy identification of contents and handles for easy lifting.”

Spoiler Alert:  So far, the High Capacity Storage Tote is fabulous!  Since I bought my other bags, Space Bags has redesigned the airtight vacuum valve; it now has a patented “turbo valve”.  It is, indeed, airtight now. 😉  Also, I think that having the bag inside a canvas cover helps so that the plastic isn’t ripped during any sort of transporting you may do.

Because I wanted to make sure the bag worked, I documented the storage process with quite a few pictures…

Here is what I started with.  As you can see the bag stands up pretty tall. In this bag there is:

  • 1- Queen size down duvet with cover
  • 1- Body Pillow
  • 1- Brightly Colored Twin size knit blanket
  • 1- Fleece throw
  • 2- Standard Pillows

Yep, that’s a lot of stuff.

It took me a few tries to get it to shrink down evenly (even shrinkage, I’d say, is the biggest challenge to the storage totes)…

Um…nope. That’s not gonna work.

Take two…

Sorry, didn’t realize the picture was so blurry. This is still a no-go. See how it is poking out on the right side?

Third time’s a charm, right?

Sweet success! I shrunk it down evenly enough to fit into the storage tote. I fastened the buckles to keep everything in place.

And….

We have lift-off!…or something.

We still have blankets and winter clothing coming out of our ears so I’m going to have to get a couple more, but that’s okay because the High Capacity Storage Totes are only $22 on Amazon.com.  The possibilities for the High Capacity Storage Totes are numerous: baby clothes and blankets, bedding sets and pillows, winter clothing, maternity clothing.

Check out the Space Savers Community online for LOTS of storage and organizational tips.  I know my husband would certainly appreciate it if I read up on all the organizational articles that they have on there. 🙂

  1. These look so cool. They would be perfect for the baby clothes that I need to pack away.
