My husband and I love the game scrabble! Speaking for myself, I like words.  I like knowing about words–where they came from, what they mean.  When I heard about the new game Dabble I thought it would be right up our alley.

Dabble, the hottest new word game in 2011!  Dabble is the kind of game that is as simple as it is challenging. It rewards players with quick wits, a large vocabulary, and perfect spelling. You have to be on your toes, since the goal of the game is to spell out five separate words with just 20 letters as quickly as possible. The trick is that the five words must be comprised of a two-letter, three-letter, four-letter, five-letter, and six-letter word.

When I play a game, I’m not generally very interested in super strategic games that take hours to play.  Dabble is the perfect game if you are looking for a fun, challenging, slightly competitive game that takes just a few minutes per round to play.  My husband and I sat down for a game of Dabble on a Sunday evening after we’d put the kids to bed.  Though there were quite a few rules, they are all quite simple and are picked up very quickly.  We each began by drawing 20 letter tiles out of a bag. We flipped the timer over and got to work.  I was surprised at how challenging the game was.  I very quickly spelled my 6, 5, 4, and 3 letter words, but was left with 2 misfit letters at the end.  I worked frantically to find way to switch around my words so I could make my blasted two letter word!  Time ran out before The Husband or I were able to finish our words so we exchanged a few of our unused tiles and set off to complete our words in round 2.  Well, we both finished, but the hubs totally kicked my trash with his word score (scored similar to scrabble, just without any of the score multipliers).

For round 3 we picked all new letter tiles.  The Husband must not have shaken the bag very well because here are the tiles I pulled out…

Yeah, not getting very far with these tiles. I'd like to buy a vowel, please.

Meanwhile, here is what the hubs spelled that same round…

This took him 2-3 minutes to finish.

I demand a rematch!

Maybe next week. 🙂

Dabble is recommended for ages 10+.   If you have school aged kids this would be an awesome game to have! It enhances learning and reading at all levels and is ideal for building vocabulary, spelling and quick-thinking skills.

P.S. This is also a great game to play with friends!

  1. I just recently bought this game for our family game night. I have elementary school aged children who love to play games. This game delivers what it promises. The instructions are easy, it is fast paced and I have seen an improvement in my children's spelling abilities already. Love it! We also played with our neighbors for a get together and had a lot of fun playing it. The best thing about the game is that it is fun for all ages. If you are a Scrabble or Bananagrams lover, you have to give this a try!

  9. Wow - this game looks amazingly cool - looks like they have a mobile version coming out for iphone as well. I like the idea of building a pyramid of words - my site specializes in word game solvers and strategies - trying to imagine how you would solve a triangle of words...
