Remember way back in one of my first posts I did a review on gDiapers. I love Little Brother’s gDiapers! There is just one thing about them that I don’t love. I don’t love that the velcro wears out (mine have typically had a 3-6 month life). gDiapers will send replacement velcro free, but I don’t own a sewing machine and so replacing the velcro requires fiddling around for hours with someone else’s sewing machine, trying to figure out how to use the darn thing, or asking a benevolent soul to change out the velcro for me. I’ve tried the former, but neither option is very appealing to me.
I was so excited when I read on another blog that KAMsnaps.com has everything you need to convert your diapers’ velcro to snaps! I’m not just talking gDiapers. KAMsnaps has snap colors to match gDiapers, Bum Genius, and Fabrite PUL!
- A set of Pliers for plastic snaps. Set comes with pliers, small screw driver, awl (the pokey thing), 4 cap dies (the 3 black things you see) to fit a variety of plastic snap sizes, including size 14, 16, 20, and star, and 2 top metal rods (the one with the wider tip is for size 24 snaps, the other is for size 20 or smaller snaps)
- Size 20 snap sets. You can order 2 sets of 100 each (200 sets total) for 25% off regular price if you order them with your pliers. I purchased the Pumpkin and Ivory snaps.
I started 3/4 in. from the end and spaced each snap 3/4 in. 4 snaps on each side of the back waistband. 2 snaps on each side of the front waistband. *On the front waistband you’ll need to start 1/2 in. from the ends.* |
Orange snaps, spaced 1in. (too tight). Ivory spaced 3/4 in (just right). |
200 snaps is enough to do about 28-33 gDiapers depending on snap placement.
I have to admit, my mind went crazy thinking of all the things you can do with KAMsnaps! You can make snap-on baby bibs. I didn’t make one to show you; I think we already covered that I don’t sew, but they would be so cute! It took me about 3 minutes to make this cute no-sew pacifier clip for Little Brother. The Husband is excited about making his Snuggie snapable! =) KAMsnaps has a page dedicated to tutorials on some of the cool things you can do with snaps including how to convert diapers to snaps, how to make a sized diaper an OS, adding snaps to prefolds (you can do that? cool!), how to make a cell phone cosy, and the list goes on!
I made these using snaps! |
There is no tutorial for this one I just made it up 😉 |
I made these cute little interchangable flower headbands for my sister’s little one that’s due on Christmas! (I have to interject here that craft stores are my nemesis! Baahhh! That’s a whole post in and of itself.) However, these snaps will come in handy for many-a-project!
