A while ago I bought one of those group discount deals that are so popular right now. It was for admission to This is the Place pioneer monument and park. I had originally purchased the admissions with the intent of going on Pioneer Day, that was back in July. We had family in town so we decided to ditch the activity that included an hour drive each way in order to spend more time with family.
Last week I remembered that the countdown was on until the voucher expired and I lost the $25 I’d paid for them so I told The Husband to keep Saturday morning open because we were going to the pioneer park. (That is pretty typical of how family activities are planned in our family; I decide where we are going and when and then let The Husband know. I think we might just stay at home all the time if it were up to The Husband.)
The day started out a little rocky as The Husband had a “Halover” (my term for a hangover from a late night playing Halo), but we ended up having a great time. We met up with my sister and her family. She’s got two boys, 6 and 4, and a little girl who is a year and a half. Big Brother had an awesome time with his cousins!
On the train ride up to the Native American village. Big Brother is wearing his gardening gloves which, according to him, enable him to be whichever superhero he decides to be that day. |
We panned for gold…
enjoyed a train ride…
…and ate a very authentic pioneer meal of BLTs, hot dogs, and french fries.
Then we rode the ponies…
…while Little Brother looked on from the stroller…
We met the locals…
Both of these guys looked like they wanted to eat me! |
He got his head stuck in the fence trying to eat me |
…and fed them a little hay, which they didn’t really want but obliged us by eating anyway.
We topped off the day with a little car shopping and a victorious college football game. All in all a very satisfying Saturday.
